This step-by-step plan is the perfect guide for home buyers that breaks the process down into five simple stages allowing you to focus on finding your dream home.

Determining Your Needs

WThe first step is a very important one. Knowing what you need for your home and how you envision your future in it will help clarify what you’re looking for. Questions you should ask yourself include:

• How many bedrooms do I need right now? What about in the future?
• How long do I plan to live in my home?
• What type of lifestyle will my future hold?

This initial evaluation is the foundation of the home-buying process. This will help you decide what type of home you need – a starter single family home, townhouse or condominium (condo) for example. You’ll also get a better of which areas appeal to you most – NE, NW, SE or SW Calgary, inner city (downtown) vs outer city (suburbs) etc. This will allow you to look out for nearby schools, Calgary transit bus routes or train stations, restaurants or shopping areas and so on. Once you’ve determined your needs, the rest of the steps will begin to fall into place.
